John Emanuel (born 1930) has been in St Ives and neighbouring Nancledra since moving to Cornwall in 1964. He has followed a highly individual line of enquiry into representations of the figure and the landscape, both separately and in seamless conjunction with one another. John’s paintings in oil and mixed media often place the female form within a landscape that is simplified but recognisable whether it is West Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. This subject combines John’s love of drawing the nude and his equally intimate association with the ancient landscape of West Cornwall.

John is an elected member of both the Penwith Society of Arts and the Newlyn School of Artists. His work is shown extensively throughout the UK and is in many private and public collections.
